“I will not do this” may appear to be an expression that characterizes not weakness, but wisdom. Choosing what really fits my needs and leaving behind all that should be left is a sign of maturity and willingness to estimate the true risks that this or that decision carries. How often, to the detriment of such a deep understanding, the choice is made in favor of “efficiency” and “general requirement to achieve a quick result”?
Sometimes we see such an in-depth knowledge of self in the context of professional performance. We may see it among specialists who make decisions about a particular action not on the basis of instructions, but according to understanding of their own capabilities, as well as deep-seated limitations.
It may seem more convenient for people around us if we will solely follow the external instructions and preferences of others. Meanwhile, it is reliance on external landmarks that can lead to a loss of self and a state of burnout on a long term horizon.
A person can assess their own capabilities even when under pressure. Observing external requirements, one can choose the most suitable scenario for the situation. Being in good contact with own self, means to know and accept the capabilities and advantages, as well as obstacles and limitations. A specialist like this does not always become the face of the company, but its well-known advantage is reliability and capacity to solve problems in different circumstances, and not just those that are well described.
During workshops and in the individual work, we gradually recognize ourselves, our features and limitations. This makes it possible to get more pleasure from life, to understand from the depths of oneself what is significant for us and what should not be given special attention.
