We enter into relationships even before we are born – primarily, with our mother, later – in various circles and contexts, be it our family, school, romantic partnership, professional environment. Our connections and disconnections with others shape who we become.

Sometimes we think we are in control of our relationships. However, suddenly we may notice that it seems to be the other way around, as if our relationships manage and change us instead. Our life strategies flourish or collapse because of what happens within the subtle field of us being in the presence of others.

Workshop’s purpose

Using the scope of tools of Systemic/Family Constellations we will explore the resources hidden within existing and past relationships, address difficult questions about the past, ours and our ancestors’ and perhaps even clear the space for future developments in the relational field.

Potential results

• Better ability to receive and to give
• Understanding of hidden structures that serve as a factor of success or failure in our relationships with others
• Developing a different perspective that helps to cope with complex, disruptive dynamics in a relationship
• Engagement with others in a deeper, more mature way.

Structure

Core parts of the event are based on the approach of Family and Systemic Constellations. 

Language of the workshop: English

For those who’s preferred language is French: it is still possible to join the event, as most of the parts are experiential, not verbal and we can try to make the conditions as favourable as possible: help with translation of difficult parts, combine people who speak both English and French for the exercises if there will be enough bilingual participants. However the instructions will be mainly made in English, as well as the sharing parts so that sufficient knowledge of language is important.

For whom is this workshop?

Joining the event does not require special skills. Anyone who feels interest towards in-depth exploration of our relational living, can join.

Returning to Regular

‘Return to normal’ is important, it’s the time of stress relief: we rely on habitual in how we regulate ourselves and being in a situation internally marked as unusual is inevitably triggering our stress response systems. Leaving a period of time behind is also a good moment to summarize the losses and gains of the pandemic. For some this period had taken a heavy toll of losses and grief, others were less affected. It’s unlikely that anyone among us has had a completely regular year.

Some of the plans are abandoned, others are now emerging. Some past activities are forgotten, and new options are available. The virus and its consequences, when something is lost forever or became obsolete are, in fact, also clearing the space for the new, and maybe it’s a good moment to think about it. 

Finding new opportunities, discovering new resources turns to be easier when the burden of habitual ways and solutions is left behind. What we need in the moments of change is having some peace within ourselves. 

The studio is open. If you schedule a session of Craniosacral Therapy, Integrative Bodywork, or a Systemic/Family Constellation, please come 5 mins before the session (not earlier): the intervals between sessions are slightly larger though it takes some time to disinfect the surfaces in the studio before your session.

Integrative Bodywork and Craniosacral Therapy

Due to the situation with COVID-19, the studio routine is more calm than in previous months, though you can still book a CranioSacral Therapy Session, or a session of Integrative Bodywork. We need support especially in the context of actual limitations and restrictions. Considering the circumstances our bodies do require more resources for balance and restoration. 

Weekly bodywork sessions are available as well.

Whatever is the request: the stress-related problem, seemingly post-traumatic effect, physical symptom or an issue manifested in relations with other people, the available internal resources of the client is the key component of the work. We work to widen the access to resources, restore the presence in the moment, develop autonomy and balance of everyday life.

To clarify the context, Systemic Justice is widely acknowledged in Brasil — briefly, an adaptation of Bert Hellinger’s Family Constellations to the civil dispute. Services of the trained systemic lawyers who use Constellations tools are provided in almost all regions of the vast country. It involves cases such as property disputes, or with whom a child should stay after a divorce of the parents. The general message of the conference was “we need it to be developed same way in Argentina”. Reports of the participants from Brazil, naturally sounded very interesting. 

What attracted my attention

A general question: What kind of law do we really need?

Law enforcement oriented on punishment and, at limit, imprisonment, is aimed at condemnation. Or, at increasing the gap between the person found ‘guilty’ and others. In Hellinger’s terms, this amounts to exclusion, depriving a person of an inherent right to belong. Ann Ancelin Schutzenberger noted that an ancestor’s stay in prison is often passed on from generation to generation as a family secret, constituting the core of transgenerational trauma. 

Adversarial trial: a concept of modern justice, where one side must ‘win’ and another therefore is doomed to ‘lose’, leads to circumstances where lawyers are rarely satisfied with the result of their work. A civil conflict cannot be fully resolved this way, the result will always lack some balance if the ‘winner’ takes it all. This in turn leads to exhaust and dissatisfaction with the practice among many of the lawyers. 

Whereas the use of Constellations in the civil process makes it possible to settle conflicts, and to settle in the most profound meaning of the word. The parties to the trial really do resolve contradictions. There is no sense in continuing the dispute if a Constellation is successful. In addition, and I would draw attention to this — the parties fully experience profound feelings, presence in the moment and deep involvement that marks the way to solution.  It’s a process where instead of ’showing’ some emotions the parties are living their presence. That in turn leads to the proper alignment of the positions and finding solutions that are most welcome by everyone involved.

Historical Similarities

This reminded me of a lecture about peasantry by Teodor Shanin, a magnificent researcher of pre-revolutionary Russia. Local settlements in Russian Empire used to elect community courts at that time, before 1917. He describes a case when the community court finds a person guilty in misappropriation of the land. According to the decision of jury that person still received a part of what he had misappropriated. The jury said: he’s one of us, and he still needs land, so this would be fair if he receives a part of what he acquired illegally. Interestingly enough, the right to be acknowledged, to belong and to be a part of the community was, therefore, preserved.

Between therapy and Ritual: Working With Sound and Voice in Studio D325 in Mile End on February 1st. It’s unlikely to experience such immediate contact with the deeper layers of the own self, as it happens when working with the voice in group setting. This workshop inherits the insights of Working With Sound and Voice held in Bogota, Colombia, in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Mediums of The Soul event, that took place in Montreal in the summer of 2019.

Systemic and Family Constellations workshop is scheduled February 15th, same location. Requests for this type of work vary from physical or mental symptoms to rather minor but for some reason significant issues, such as attitudes to people or situations that otherwise would not have reasonable explanation. Constellation allows to take a fresh look at the familiar, well-established picture of the conflict or symptom, it gives access to an opportunity to see a movement interrupted in the past, to create a space for the free flow of life.
